Message: had a really odd thing happen today, never had such an experience. while at my parents this weekend, my father and i mowed and raked up an area roughly 20 x 30, then planted some secret spot. today, i drove back up there to move a large branch that had fallen down by my camp, and had a kid with me to help. we stopped at the newly planted spot to check for tracks, found some smallish ones, and were just about back to the truck, when two yearlings jumped up, no more than twenty yards away. they trotted off a bit, and then fed away from us. we got back in, headed up the road, only to find they had beat us to the corner. they scattered, we went up, moved the tree, then i took him down to show the kid where i had taken a deer, roughly 100 yards from the camp, up the hill from the critters. as we headed back to the truck, what do i see, but the twins, coming right at us! they had circled us, and where coming down the hill. we were in plain sight of the two yearlings, so i started to call like a fawn. they stopped with a tree between themselves and i, and so i continued calling, and worked to within 30 feet of them, before they finally spooked a little.. hope they stick around until october, awful good chance one of them is going to get stuck with an arrow. but get this, when they wandered off, i began calling to them, and whistling, just like they were dogs, and they never even showed that they were the least bit nervous, and in fact came back to me a bit. i wonder if someone has been feeding them they just act way to calm around people, have to put some fear into them. anyone ever had this kind of experience before?
